Identifying Wrist Bones
The wrist joint is one of the most complex joints inside the human body and you would find that identifying wrist bones can be quite difficult and interesting at the same time. Before you get into the details of the wrist bones, you need to understand the basic definition of the wrist joint. The wrist is defined as the combination of eight bones which form the proximal skeletal segment of the hand.
There are many joints which exist in this region and you would find that all of them are important for the proper coordination of the hand movements with the body. The bones of the wrist are also quite sensitive and an accretion of stress in this region can lead to several wrist injuries and problems in the long run.
Wrist Bones Anatomy
The wrist bones anatomy is quite complex and you would find that there are more than 8 bones associated in making perfect hand movements. Apart from the 8 carpal bones that are involved here, you have 5 metacarpal bones for completing the wrist bones structure. The 8 carpal wrist bones are known as scaphoid, lunate, triquetral, pisiform, trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, and hamate. The metacarpal wrist bones are the ones which extend to your hand and lead to the fingers, and are described as metacarpal 1 to 5. Apart from these two joints, there is another joint which links the metacarpal joint with the carpal bones. This joint is known as the carpometacarpal joint and it exists between each metacarpal and carpal bone pair. For example, the first carpometacarpal joint exists between the trapezium, the leftmost carpal bone, and the first carpometacarpal joint. These carpometacarpal joints differ on the basis of type and you would find that the difference in these joints makes for the different type of movements of your fingers and hands.

Since the wrist bones are quite complex and the entire structure is prone to problems, you would find that a high number of wrist injuries are being reported these days. The major reason behind this is the complex structure of the wrist bones and the repetitive occupational stress injuries that are happening today. It is important that you take full care of your wrist bones and provide them with adequate exercises to keep them in a fit shape.
